April is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month sponsored by the ASPCA. The month long campaign called ‘Go Orange for Animals’ will have celebrations in three parts of the country, starting yesterday, April 7th with a gala event in New York City.

The Big Apple event at Union Square features adoptable animals, live music, refreshments, and the animal cops from Animal Planet’s Animal Precinct TV show.  Animal behaviorists will be on hand to offer advice and party goers can get a caricature drawn of their favorite furry buddy.  Pet-lovers of all ages are encouraged to attend.

Then on April 18th Austin, TX will host the first annual ‘Go Orange for Animals’ 1.5k Wag-n-Walk for pets and their families.  The one-mile walk will be held at Zilker Park and when participants cross the finish line they will find themselves at the entrance to a festival. Just like the NY event, this celebration will also feature homeless animals ready for adoption plus discounted coupons from local spay/neuter groups.  Entertainment, a doggy obstacle course, photos, prizes and more will make this a special day for all pet-lovers.

The final ‘Go Orange for Animals’ event will be held in Los Angeles on April 25th. Pet-parents and their pups are invited to attend a special 1.5k Wag-n-Walk at Venice Beach.  This second walk-a-thon will also feature a party for dogs and their humans with games, contests and prizes.  Local rescue groups will be on hand with adoptable cats and dogs and radio station personalities will help participants enjoy the celebration.

For more information about the two Wag-n-Walks visit the ASPCA Ambassador website.  If an event is not being held in your area, the ASPCA is encouraging animal lovers to sponsor their own celebration to commemorate Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month. Here are ten things you can do to help support the event.
