Australian Boys Feeds Zoo Animals to Crocodile

This is a horrific story out of Sydney, Australia, demonstrating the sick world we live in. A 7-year-old boy broke into a popular Outback zoo, fed several animals to the resident crocodile and bashed several lizards to death with a rock. The incident lasted thirty minutes- caught on the zoo’s security camera, it happened early Wednesday and involved the boy jumping a security fence at the Alice Springs Reptile Center in central Australia. The child then went on a killing spree, bashing three lizards to death with a rock, including the zoo’s 20-year-old goanna, which he fed to “Terry,” an eleven foot, 440 pound saltwater crocodile. The boy also fed several live animals to Terry by throwing them over the two fences surrounding the crocodiles enclosure, at one point climbing over the outer fence to get closer to the huge reptile. By the time he left, thirteen animals worth around $5,500 had been killed, including a turtle, bearded dragons, and thorny devil lizards.
Area police said they are unable to press charges against the boy because of his age. Children under 10 can’t be charged with criminal offenses in the Northern Territory. His name was also not released because of his age.
The zoo director, Rex Neindorf, says he plans to sue the boy’s parents. Neindorf also says that because of the boy’s small size the zoo’s security system which relies on sensors to detect intruders failed to go off.
The picture above is from a surveillance camera, showing the boy throwing something over a fence, probably to the enclosed crocodile.
So, where were the child’s parents during the whole incident? And what would drive a 7-year-old boy to do such a thing? Whatever the reason, I hope the boy gets some serious help and some kind of punishment, if not from the police, then from his parents.

Don’t Wear “Exotic” Animals

Most people would probably agree that it’s not right to wear fur. Animals such as foxes, rabbits, chinchillas, mink, and seals are killed by electrocution, neck-breaking, and having their skulls smashed. The ways exotic animals like crocodiles, snakes, lizards, and other wildlife are killed for boots, belts, bags, wallets, and other “exotic” merchandise are just as cruel. No animal should have to suffer just for us to wear the skin on its back. There’s nothing fashionable about it. Besides, with all the faux options out there, what’s the point in wearing the real thing?
